" People travel to wonder at the height of the mountains,

at the huge waves of the seas,

at the long course of the rivers,

at the vast compass of the ocean,

at the circular motion of the stars,

and yet they pass by themselves without wondering."

St. Augustine

History of Reiki

Reiki was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 1900's and brought to the United States by Mrs.Hawayo Takata. She changed some of the facts about Dr. Mikao Usui in order to make Reiki more acceptable to the post-World War ll population, but the knowledge of Reiki was passed on unchanged. Mrs. Takata also started the Reiki Alliance, which still exists today in Hawaii under the direction of her granddaughter, Mrs. Phyllis Furomoto.

Mrs. Takata charged $10,000.00 for Master Level attunement, which is still in effect today with the Reiki Alliance. She made the fee high so Westerners would value the knowledge she was passing on. And the cost remained high for decades, until the western world was ready for this incredible gift of healing. Now the fee varies from one master to another, but is generally affordable for most people.

There are many books on the history of Reiki, and I encourage you to pick up one.
